That guarantee has been the same frame for a long time — guidelines effective 8-15-99 — and it stays tied to what is on the page:

What the one-year genetic guarantee covers

Puppies are guaranteed free from major genetic defects — the live page names generalized demodex as an example — for one year from the purchase date.

If a dog is diagnosed with a major genetic defect that negatively affects health within that year, you are eligible for a refund path under the published conditions:

• Refund limited to half the original purchase price, or the cost of repairing the defect, whichever is smaller
• Or you may take a replacement pup instead

Diagnosis must come from a licensed veterinarian specializing in the field. You must call LabPups before treatment. We may seek a second opinion. A claim needs the vet’s name and phone, a copy of your original sales receipt, original health records, and the documents outlined on the guarantee page (including surgical notes, imaging, and receipts when treatment applies).

In some cases, medical treatment may not be necessary even when there is a technical genetic abnormality. We say that on the page so families are not surprised by a careful review.

Registration note, because it travels with the same honesty: pups are issued AKC limited registration unless otherwise indicated. Limited means your dog is AKC registered; pups that dog later has are not eligible for AKC papers. Full registration is sometimes changed later through our lease-back program. We never promise full papers up front.

What it does not cover

Say this plainly — the live page does:

• Hip dysplasia is not covered. The page states it is primarily caused by nutrition, growth rate, environment, or injury, and has not been established as a genetic defect under this guarantee.
• Allergies, small skin irritations, localized demodex, and extropia are not covered.

The first ten days: call before you treat

The first ten days after purchase have their own path.

If symptoms of a virus, bacteria, or any other problem show up within ten days, call us immediately. If the sickness was contracted before the purchase date and symptoms developed later, we will trade for a healthy pup.

If you take the pup to the vet for treatment inside that ten-day window, we are not responsible for the bill. That also applies to illnesses or defects other than viral or bacterial in that early window.

Puppies have delicate digestive systems. Trading foods, the stress of a new house, or chewing the wrong thing can cause temporary vomiting or diarrhea. Unnecessary clinic visits at a young age can also expose a pup to viruses lingering in a waiting room. Call first — we can help decide whether you need a vet that day.

The food rule that keeps the guarantee in force

To qualify for the guarantee, the dog must stay on a good, highly digestible protein diet including vitamin C for the entire year. Improper nutrition (or growth hormones) can deform bones and joints and lead to other serious issues quickly — that is why the page is firm here.

The only approved foods named on the live page are JaxMax, or an equivalent food recommended by the breeder. If that rule is not followed, the guarantee does not qualify.
